If you bought a home in Florida last year, occupied it before 2009 ended, and it is your principal residence, you may qualify for a Homestead Exemption in your county. This could also be true if you owned a home here, used it for vacation purposes, but now have moved here permanently and are making it your main residence.
The deadline for filing is the end of February 2010. If you wait past that date, you will likely not be able to claim an exemption for the 2010 property tax year. So time is running out very quickly and you should not delay in taking care of this matter.
To see the requirements for the Homestead Exemption in Pasco County, you can download an informative brochure by clicking on the following link: Download Pasco County Homestead Exemption Brochure You will also find contact information on these pages so you can call the county property appraiser's office and get the answers you need. They will also tell you what documentation you will need to prove that you qualify.
If you live in another county, click on the following link to find its internet webpage: http://dor.myflorida.com/dor/property/appraisers.html Click on your county's name and you will find exemption information and contact numbers. I am sure they can answer any questions you may have.
